The bags that were too large to be checked on the flight. The problem caused a three day delay in Carter-Shotts leaving for Ethiopia even though they were the same size she has shipped dozens of times..

Hakema came to the city from a remote village after her parents died from AIDS. An older sister tested positive for the disease causing the two to be separated.

Beza was one of six children coming to new homes and families in America. Beza joined a family in Bloomington along with another girl from the home.

Lily was upset that her adoption to a family in Oklahoma was delayed by paperwork and it looked like she would not be able to leave with 15 other children to come to America. Shotts reassured her that she would be coming to America and worked to get the paperwork cleared so she could make the trip.

Etagegen Kilpack, 20, upper right, rests as well after getting babies to sleep. Kilpack was adopted out of Ethiopia five years ago and now lives in Utah. She returned to help escort children on the trip.

After arranging all the details for the kids and the families Shotts didn't arrange a ride home for herself so she had to get a ride with one of the families.
