Looking for an empty cup, owner Jay Stearns makes the rounds at the Corner Bakery in Knightstown Wednesday April 30, 2008. Stearns opens his small shop before dawn and has waves of customers coming in throughout the morning. Stearns says all is not well at his shop. He said some of his wholesale prices have doubled in the last 16 months, and others have tripled. He has raised his retail prices slightly... a donut that used to cost 45 cents, now costs a half dollar... but he dares not go higher because business already has slowed, he speculates, to rising gas prices.(MIKE FENDER / The Star)
